Position Overview

We are seeking an innovative and experienced Senior Applied Research Manager to lead our eBay Ads CCOE Applied Research team in developing groundbreaking advertising solutions that drive business growth and improve user experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of applied research scientists and engineers in developing sophisticated advertising algorithms and models on both seller side and buyer side.
  • Drive research initiatives in areas such as CTR prediction, bid optimization, and recommendation systems.
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and business teams to translate research findings into scalable solutions.
  • Define and complete the technical roadmap for ads monetization improvements.
  • Foster cross-functional partnerships to drive innovation in advertising technology.

Required Qualifications

  • Master or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in applied research, with 3+ years in advertising technology.
  • Strong track record of leading and delivering impactful machine learning projects.
  • Experience with large-scale machine learning systems and advertising platforms.
  • Excellence in team leadership and cross-functional collaboration.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with real-time bidding systems and programmatic advertising.
  • Deep understanding of recommendation systems and personalization.
  • Publication record in top-tier conferences (KDD, WWW, SIGIR, etc.).
  • Experience with e-commerce platforms and marketplace dynamics.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence senior partners.
