The Work

ICF is seeking an enthusiastic User Experience Researcher to support client aligned digital design work across our Experience practice. This role is ideal for a junior to mid-level researcher who enjoys hands on research execution, collaboration with designers and product teams, and translating insights into clear, actionable recommendations in a consulting environment.

Job Location

This position requires that the job be performed in the United States. If you accept this position, you should note that ICF monitors employee work locations and blocks access from foreign locations/foreign IP addresses and prohibits personal VPN connections.

  • This is a part time, on call role with variable hours based on project needs.
  • You may be asked to travel occasionally (e.g., quarterly) to an ICF office or client meeting.
  • Core collaboration hours are 10:00am-4:00pm Eastern Time, with flexibility outside those hours depending on time zone and project needs.

What You Will Do

  • Plan and support user research activities such as interviews, usability testing, surveys, and qualitative synthesis.
  • Collaborate with UX designers, product managers, and delivery teams to define research goals and learning objectives.
  • Conduct research sessions (primarily remote) and document findings clearly and accurately.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative inputs to identify patterns, insights, and opportunities.
  • Translate research findings into concise deliverables (summaries, readouts, personas, journey insights) for clients and project stakeholders.
  • Support iterative research across multiple projects as needed in a fast paced consulting environment.

What You Will Bring With You

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Human Computer Interaction, Psychology, Social Science, Design, or related discipline).
  • 2+ years of experience supporting or conducting UX/user research in applied or professional settings.
  • Candidate must reside in the U.S., be authorized to work in the U.S., and perform all work in the U.S.

Professional Skills

  • Hands on experience with qualitative research methods (e.g., interviews, usability testing).
  • Ability to clearly document and communicate research findings.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross functional teams.
  • Clear, concise communication with both technical and non technical stakeholders.
  • Organized, adaptable, and comfortable working in an on call, project based model.

What We Would Like You To Bring With You

  • Experience working in consulting, government, healthcare, or regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with research (Qualtrics, UserTesting.com), design (Figma) and collaboration tools (Mural, Jira, Confluence, or similar).
  • Exposure to quantitative or mixed methods research.
  • Comfort balancing multiple small research projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$81,499.00 - $138,549.00
