Principal Human Factors Engineer – Lifesciences (Medical Devices)
Location: Fort Worth, TX
Compensation: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year

Responsibilities
Apply user‑centered design principles to the research, design, and development of Alcon’s Digital Health Suite and surgical instrumentation projects.
Apply Human Factors Engineering (HFE) methods and principles to design and develop products that meet customer technical/functional specifications as well as manufacturing cost/efficiency requirements.
Deliver traditional HFE activities and deliverables such as HFE Plans, task analyses to support risk‑management activities, usability evaluations, cognitive walkthroughs, data analysis to identify opportunities and control risks, reporting on evaluation results, and presenting recommendations to product teams.
Author Human Factors artifacts required for regulatory compliance, specifically IEC 62366, AAMI HE75 and FDA, applying Human Factors and Usability Engineering to medical devices.
Collaborate with product teams to ensure optimal usability characteristics and use safety of current and future Alcon products, identifying, defining, analysing and reporting on human‑factors and usability considerations throughout the design process.
Advocate for end users through interviews or surveys, capturing use‑related requirements, use risks, needs, user profiles, task analysis and user interfaces.
Perform needs assessment of user‑interface elements and usability characteristics of both current and future Alcon products, with a special emphasis on use safety.
Translate user needs and requirements into design concepts in collaboration with the product design teams.
Maintain awareness of state‑of‑the‑art methods applied to the life‑sciences/medical‑device industry.
Plan and own activities, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in design, engineering, marketing, quality, regulatory, and clinical areas.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of directly related experience (Associate + 11 years; M.S. + 5 years; Ph.D. + 4 years).
Fluent in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating in English.
At least 4 years of experience delivering HFE support for medical device (SiMD, SaMD, etc.) development.
Must have delivered a full HFE file to support at least one successful medical device FDA approval and IEC 60601‑1‑6 certification (IEC 62366 TRF).
