Mundane is a venture-backed seed-stage robot learning startup founded by a team of Stanford researchers and builders. We’re deploying a massive fleet of humanoid robots to perform mundane tasks in commercial environments, collecting data to build the next generation of embodied intelligence. About the Role

You’ll design and develop the visual teleoperation interface that connects humans to Mundane’s humanoid robots — the bridge between human cognition and embodied intelligence. Sitting within the research team, you’ll study how operators perceive and act through our systems, then translate those insights into high-performance, intuitive interfaces optimized for clarity, latency, and control.

This role blends HCI research, real-time visualization, and robotics systems design. You’ll experiment with perception overlays, 3D visualization, and VR telepresence to make controlling complex robots as natural as moving your own body.

Responsibilities

Design, prototype, and iterate the teleoperation interface for real-time robot control.
Conduct HCI experiments to measure operator performance, latency perception, and cognitive load.
Integrate real-time visual and sensor data (RGB, depth, LiDAR, robot state) into intuitive UI components.
Collaborate with controls, middleware, and streaming teams to optimize responsiveness and usability.
Develop frameworks for operator feedback, telemetry, and user performance analytics.
Prototype immersive interaction modes — from desktop visualization to full VR telepresence.

Qualifications

Must-Haves

Background in Human–Computer Interaction (HCI), Cognitive Science, Robotics, or Computer Science.
Strong experience with image processing and visual data pipelines (OpenCV, PyTorch, etc.).
Proficiency in real-time prototyping tools such as Unity, Unreal, or WebGL.
Experience designing and conducting user studies to evaluate human–robot interaction.
Familiarity with low-latency streaming and visualization systems (WebRTC, RTSP, H.264/265).

Bonus

Prior experience building teleoperation interfaces or VR/XR streaming systems.
Experience with ROS2 or robotic middleware.
Knowledge of sensor-fusion visualization and perception overlays.
Familiarity with human factors or psychophysics research related to visual latency and motion.
